These systems are constantly expanding and contracting as they operate. Epoxy, by nature, is a rigid coating. Can Epoxy Be Applied on Floors with Underfloor Heating?

- The screed must have completed a minimum curing period of 28 days
- The substrate moisture content must be below 4%
- The underfloor heating system must be tested and commissioned
- The heating system must be switched off during application

The Most Critical Issue = Thermal Expansion

What Should the Correct Application System Look Like?
Standard epoxy systems are generally not sufficient for floors with underfloor heating. A more controlled, multilayer system is required.
1. Surface Preparation
- Mechanical surface grinding
- Removal of all dust, contaminants, and weak surface particles
2. Moisture-Tolerant Primer
- High-adhesion epoxy primer
- Products with moisture barrier properties should be preferred
3. Intermediate Layer (Strengthening Layer)
- Epoxy system filled with quartz sand
- Improves the mechanical strength of the surface
4. Topcoat
There are two recommended options:
- Polyurethane-modified epoxy coating
- Polyurethane coating
How Should the Heating System Be Managed During Application?
Even the highest-quality materials may fail if this detail is overlooked.
- The underfloor heating system should be switched off 48 hours before application
- It should remain off throughout the application and curing period
- After the coating has fully cured, the heating system should be restarted gradually
Suddenly turning the heating system back on may:
- cause thermal shock in the coating
- lead to adhesion loss and cracking
